Apple Mac Studio (M5 Ultra, 2026)
The fastest personal local-LLM machine reviewed so far: 1.2 TB/s unified memory up to 256 GB (512 GB due late October), generating roughly 4× the tokens per second of DGX Spark in Tom's Hardware's test.

Why it is here
Listed only under personal AI hardware; the M5 Max Studio is a different chip and SKU and is listed under desktops. Tom's Hardware (Editor's Choice) found it beats DGX Spark on prompt processing and generates almost 4× Spark's tokens per second on Qwen 3.8-27B Q4_K_M, at about 2× the M4 Max. MacStories measured 108 vs 70 tok/s against the M3 Ultra on Qwen3.8 Flash-Next and 2.5× faster 16K prefill. Ars measured just over 50 tok/s on Qwen 3.8 27B against ~31 for the M5 Max. PCMag (4.5, Editors' Choice) and Engadget (8.9) confirm its workstation-class CPU and GPU.
Who it is for
Developers and power users running large open-weight models and agents locally (100B+ at useful context lengths), plus heavy creative or compute workloads on macOS. Not for buyers who need CUDA or ISV certification.
