Paul Russell and Company
'Mr. Best of Show': four Pebble Beach and four Villa d'Este Best of Show wins, with a preservation-first philosophy.
Why it is here
Hagerty's June 2026 profile credits the shop with more than 50 Best of Show awards over 48 years, including four at Pebble Beach and four at Villa d'Este. The profile also covers Ralph Lauren's Bugatti 57SC Atlantic and 'Count Trossi' SSK, the 2022 restoration of 250 GTO 3413GT, and Paul Russell's role as 2026 Greenwich Concours grand marshal (2026-06-26). Autoweek reported that the 1928 Mercedes-Benz 680S Saoutchik Torpedo, restored by Paul Russell and Co., won Best of Show at Pebble Beach 2012. The team used other Saoutchik 680S cars as references down to the original upholstery staple positions (2012-08-19). Score drivers: expertise 9.5 from the multi-venue Best of Show record; provenance 9.5 because his stated aim is an 'accurate, three-dimensional historical document', and he brings in paint-chemistry consultants for preservation work; prestige 9.0; community 8.0 (private commissions; he chairs McPherson College's restoration advisory board); experience 8.2. The second independent source dates from 2012, so the evidence is older than for RM.
Who it is for
Collectors of 300SL-era Mercedes-Benz, 1950s Ferrari and Bugatti who want museum-grade accuracy or careful preservation.
